A New Temple In Birmingham
The construction of a small temple in Birmingham, AL was announced in a letter from the First Presidency at local church meetings on Sunday, September 20th, 1998. Temples were also announced for Memphis, TN and Columbia, SC. Groundbreaking for the Birmingham Alabama Temple occurred on October 9, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. near the branch meetinghouse in Gardendale, Alabama. The Birmingham Alabama Temple District will include five Alabama stakes (Birmingham, Bessemer, Huntsville, Montgomery and Mobile) and two Florida stakes (Pensacola and Fort Walton Beach). The Birmingham Alabama Temple was dedicated by President Gordon B. Hinckley on Sunday, September 3, 2000.
